I’ve been working for charities since I left social work in 2003 and in Camden for the past 10 years. At Volunteer Centre Camden I ran a befriending scheme and a supported volunteering scheme for people with mental health issues. I start from the standpoint that everyone has something to offer and I also gained in-depth knowledge of working with volunteers in an inclusive way, supporting each person to get the kind of experience they wanted. Over the last three years at West Euston Partnership I’ve run community health projects that encourage people to take up healthy habits. This has involved working with a number of other local organisations offering their areas of expertise to broaden the range of activities on offer. Volunteers continue to be one of the many parts of my work that I enjoy along with seeing people becoming more confident and active in their community. As well, I’m the Chair of Trustees for another Camden charity, have been practising yoga for many years and try – not always successfully – to eat less sugar! So putting into practice what I preach!
